The Perfect Ring: Engagement Rings
You’ve been together almost six years, and things have never been sweeter. She’s beautiful inside and out, or has a personality to die for, her looks aside. You know she’s going to be a great mom one day, that she’s going to make all who live with her absolutely happy. Or maybe she’s a little bit cranky, can’t cook well, is mischievous and enjoys pranks and jokes, and detests children. Either way, you love her and she’s yours, and you want her to stay yours for the rest of your lives.
So you get down on your knee, look up into her eyes and watch as her face goes from surprise to excitement. Then you pick up a penny…joking! Then you pull out the ring that you picked out just for her. It says everything that you would ever want to…
But engagement rings do cost a pretty penny and sometimes the pennies aren’t there. You can wait and save, however. There’s nothing wrong with that—all but the shallowest women will understand. It’s generally better to wait, but you don’t have to.
Either way, you have two options. You can trick her into picking a ring. Or you can choose it yourself.
Now, keep in mind that most women aren’t all that picky. Others have their hearts set on a certain ring and have since they were small. Some women don’t care if you give them a ring out of a bubble gum machine—as long as you love them and they love you. Others would prefer nicer engagement rings. There’s nothing wrong with either of these.
Here are a few tips and methods to picking out perfect engagement rings:
1.Find out her ring size. Keep in mind that most rings can be fitted to her size if they aren’t quite right, but if you take the time to figure out her size, then you’re showing her just how serious this is to you. Now, there are a few ways to find out her size. If you know anyone who sells Avon or any other catalogs that might sell rings, you can have them visit and show her the catalog. Chances are that she might mention “Aw…this one is too small!” or “They don’t have my size!” or “Hey! This is available in my size.” after she gets through the makeup. That’s the perfect opportunity to pipe up and say, teasingly, “Well, what IS your size?” It’s far more subtle that asking her flat out, and you have the perfect opportunity to do so.
2.Look online, when she ISN’T at home. Remember how the previous “Aw! That isn’t in my size!” Chances are if she lingered over that ring that she really liked the style. Keep a note of that and swipe another Avon or whatever catalog and go through and see which ones really frustrated her because they weren’t her size. If you can take the recurring factors (Is it a simple band? Is it white gold or yellow gold? Eighteen carat or fourteen? Silver, platinum? What gems did she really seem to like? Did she ever say, “That would look ten times better with…”?) and design a special ring just for her, it’ll make it ten times as special. Or you might find another engagement ring that fits what she likes.
There are also a few things to avoid, such as:
1.Telling her. That ruins things, even if she doesn’t like surprises.
2.Whining over the price. Unless she’s asking you to ask her to marry her, it isn’t her fault you’re spending so much or so little. If you don’t think you can handle buying it, then postpone asking her and save the money. She’s worth it; she can wait and so can you. You have a lifetime after all.
3.Get upset if she says no. It may just not be a good time. Maybe she wants to advance in her career, or there’s something going on family wise. Either way, you need to keep an open mind. Maybe now isn’t the right time, but there will be a right time soon. Just keep that engagement ring close.
4.Really buy a bubble gum machine ring. Engagement rings don’t HAVE to be expensive, but there are instances when you take it too far. Even if she says yes, the most secure woman may wonder if your reason for such a cheap ring is because that’s what you think of the relationship.
